Lost in the shuffle during a 23-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday was Chargers kicker Nick Novak setting a new franchise record for most consecutive field goals when he kicked his 30th straight, beating the record of former Chargers kicker John Carney.
Novak, who was born in San Diego, set the record on a 24-yard attempt in the fourth quarter and added on to his record when he made a 48-yard field goal later in the quarter.
The Chargers official twitter account congratulated Novak shortly after making the record-setting kick:
24-yd FG is good! That’s 30 FGs in a row for @9nicknovak… a new team record. #KCvsSD

So far this season Novak has been perfect converting all 14 of his attempts, which puts him in a tie for fourth best in the NFL.
After stints with five different teams (including the Chargers at one point), and even some time in NFL Europa, Novak signed with the Chargers for good in 2011 to replace long-time kicker Nate Kaeding. In his time with the Bolts he has made 93 field goals and has a 89 percent conversion rate.
