
Twenty-six nations, 45 ships, five submarines, more than 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel will participate in the biennial Rim of the Pacific exercise beginning next week in the Pacific.
RIMPAC, the world’s largest international maritime exercise, is scheduled for June 30 through Aug. 4 around the Hawaiian Islands and off Southern California.
The exercise will include amphibious operations in Southern California, and feature a Harpoon missile shoot from the USS Coronado on its maiden deployment.
The exercise will be led by U.S. Vice Adm. Nora Tyson, commander of the U.S. 3rd Fleet, which is headquartered in San Diego.
Royal Australian Navy Rear Adm. Scott Bishop will serve as deputy commander of the combined task force, and Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Rear Adm. Koji Manabe as the vice commander.
This year’s exercise also includes forces from Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, People’s Republic of China, Peru, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga and the United Kingdom.
