A woman suspected of stealing a trailer in Clairemont Mesa led police on a freeway pursuit that ended in her arrest after she crashed the SUV she was driving while fleeing to the north — on the southbound side of Interstate 15.
The incident began at about 8:30 Tuesday morning, when the suspect refused to yield to officers trying to pull her over as she was towing a possibly stolen trailer behind a late-model Toyota 4Runner, the San Diego Police Department said.
The woman fled on northbound SR-163 and soon merged onto the I-15, eventually winding up heading north on the southbound side of the latter freeway, where she crashed the SUV near Pomerado Road, SDPD Sgt. Saum Poorsaleh said.
The suspect then got out of the damaged 4Runner and appeared to try to force her way into several other vehicles before officers subdued her with an electric stun gun and took her into custody, Poorsaleh said. The identity of the woman, who appeared to be in her mid-30s, was not immediately available.
No serious injuries were reported.
The pursuit and crash left the northbound side of I-15 fully blocked for a time and several southbound lanes closed as well, according to Caltrans.
Both sides of the freeway were fully open again as of 10:45 a.m., the agency said.
