According to a report from OnSceneTV, the driver may have been suffering from a medical issue when he drove off the freeway and down the Main Street exit of northbound I805, hitting a tree head-on.
The Chula Vista Fire Department, San Diego Fire & Rescue, and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the accident, which happened about 2:45 p.m. Monday in south Chula Vista.
Firefighters extricated the man from the wreckage, and he was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries and chest pain, according to the report.
The accident caused the off-ramp to be closed for a short time.
