A 16-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed a classmate during a fight at their East County school Tuesday was arrested a short time later, authorities reported.

The alleged assault occurred during a summer session at Ramona High School about 11:30 a.m., according to sheriff’s officials.

Medics treated the 15-year-old victim at the scene before taking him to a hospital for further care. His condition was not released, nor was his name.

Deputies arrested the suspect at his home less than an hour later. The boy, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, was expected to be booked into juvenile hall.

It was unclear what sparked the altercation between the two youths, who were acquainted beforehand, authorities said.
