A woman driving on Pomerado Road in Poway on Sunday morning fell asleep and drove into the bike lane, injuring two women who were jogging.
The San Diego County Sheriff‘s office said nearby residents heard the collision and came to help the victims, who appeared to have head injuries and cuts, until paramedics arrived. Both victims were driven by Poway Fire Department to Palomar Hospital.
The driver of the car stayed at the scene and reported the accident. Traffic was diverted on northbound Pomerado Road from Casa Avenida to Via Monte Claro for about an hour during the accident investigation.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the collision and the driver was released at the scene. The investigation is continuing.
