Hirving “Chucky” Lozano scored two goals and had two assists as San Diego FC scored a season high five goals while shutting out FC Dallas on Saturday.

Onni Valakari scored a goal with a pair of assists and Anders Dreyer had a goal and recorded an assist as SDFC ended a three-match losing streak at a wet and misty Snapdragon Stadium.

Lozano scored at 20 minutes on a penalty after Alex Mighten drew a free kick following a foul by Ramiro Benetti. Lozano scored again at 27 minutes using the right boot from the right side of the box.

Dreyer scored with a left-footed shot from the right side of the box at 56 minutes. Lozano and Valakari were credited with assists. Valakari entered the scoring column with a left boot from the middle of the box at 73 minutes as Dreyer and Lozano assisted.

Escondido native Milan Iloski also scored his first goal for SDFC — his first in the league too –at the 87th minute from right of the box off an assist from Valakari.

San Diego improved to 5-4-2, and 3-1-2 at home. The difference, Lozano said in Spanish, was “the training we did this week, all the details we worked on.

“All my teammates did the job they needed to do, and you saw a strong team offensively and defensively out there,” his interpreter said. “You know, that’s what we’re after and there’s always room for improvement.”

The five-goal win also marked the club’s highest-scoring match of the season. Dallas, which hadn’t surrendered more than three goals to an opponent this season, fell to 4-4-3.

Lozano’s big night, according to MLS, made him fourth player in league history to have at least two goals and two assists in a single match for an expansion team in its inaugural season. The last player to do it was Carlos Vela on Oct. 12, 2018.

In addition, Lozano became the fifth player in MLS history with at least four goals and four assists in his first eight games with an expansion club – and he did it despite being sidelined for three games.

SDFC travels to St. Louis (2-5-4) for its next match on May 10, before a run of three straight games at home.
