Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones scored 32 points as UC San Diego downed Cal State Northridge 79-54 at home Saturday.

Tait-Jones shot 10 of 14 from the field and 12 for 13 from the free-throw line for the Tritons (17-4, 7-2 Big West). Tyler McGhie added 19 points while shooting 6 for 15, including 5 for 11 from beyond the arc, and also racking up a career high six steals.

Chris Howell led the way on the defensive end with three steals, two blocks and five rebounds. Overall, his team had six blocks, a season high.

The Tritons held the Matadors to CSUN to a season-low 54 points and at one point limited them to a stretch of 1-for-16 shooting.  

UCSD enjoyed an 18-1 run over five minutes of the first half, including three tough Tait-Jones layups. Tait-Jones went 7-for-8 from the line on his way to 23 points in the half, accounting for more than half of the Tritons 41-22 lead.

Scotty Washington led the way for the Matadors (13-7, 5-4 Big West) with 17 points.

UC San Diego travels to face Hawaii (12-8, 4-5 Big West) at 9 p.m. Thursday.
