San Diego FC is preparing for their first season in Major League Soccer, and to kick it off Friday they selected their first player, a San Diego native, in the 2024 MLS Re-Entry Draft.

He is goalkeeper Jacob Jackson, and SDFC will pick up his contract option for the 2025 season.

Jackson, picked 24th overall by the New England Revolution in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, made three appearances with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2024 after he was claimed off waivers in April.

The 24-year-old spent most of his time with the clubs’ MLS NEXT Pro affiliates, New England Revolution ll and The Town FC.

In other SDFC news, the club acquired two 2025 International Roster Slots from Seattle Sounders FC Thursday in exchange for $250,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money.

Also on Thursday, SDFC acquired Colombian defender Andrés Reyes from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for $600,000 in GAM, $200,000 in 2026 GAM and a future sell-on percentage.

Reyes has a guaranteed contract through the 2026 season with a club option for an additional year.

In his four seasons with the Red Bulls, Reyes made 71 starts and scored five goals. At the international level, Reyes made two career appearances for the Colombian Senior National Team.

SDFC also, with adidas, on Friday unveiled the club’s new jersey, which fans can obtain at Eighteen Threads, the team’s official retail shop at Mission Valley Mall. SDFC calls it “more than a kit – it’s a story woven into every thread of the jersey,” with the main colors, chrome and azul – blue in Spanish – along with stripes and tags, each carrying a meaning.

“This kit embodies the spirit of our club and the pride of our city, and we can’t wait to see our players and fans in Chrome and Azul as we kick off our first-ever MLS season in February,” SDFC CEO Tom Penn.

The club will host St. Louis CITY SC at Snapdragon Stadium in its inaugural home match on March 1.
