Geoff Bond has been named head coach of the UC San Diego men’s rowing team.
He becomes the 12th head coach to lead the team since the program began in 1967.
“The men’s rowing team is coming off of an incredible season in 2018 and we know that Geoff will raise the bar even higher,” said athletic director Earl Edwards.
Bond called it “an honor” to become the team’s head coach and added that “the passion and enthusiasm” he’d seen in his future team had impressed him.
He served as the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania from 2015-19. His team competed at the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Sprints and the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship each year.
Bond also spent time at Cal. After serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the varsity crew, he became the team’s associate head coach in 2000. During his nine years with the Golden Bears, the team had four gold-medal finishes at the IRA National Championships.
Bond graduated from Brown University and rowed on IRA National Championship medal-winning teams.
