SDUT’s Mark Zeigler reported on Thursday morning that San Diego State Basketball signed four-star recruit Jordan Schakel late Wednesday night.

Schakel was expected to sign with the University of Southern California, from where both of his parents graduated.

The 6-foot-6 senior at Bishop Montgomery High represents the second oral commitment for the Aztecs’ 2017-18 recruiting class.

The first was fellow California guard Adam Seiko, a two-star recruit from Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth.

Schakel is a legitimate long-distance threat, a role that SDSU will need to fill after the loss of senior guard Matt Shirgley.
