With a three-run seventh inning home run, San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers made Padres’ history as the first player to hit eleven homers in one month.
Myers, who has now hit a career-high eighteen home runs in 2016, only hit eight homers in 60 games in 2015.
Myers also tied outfield partner Matt Kemp for fifth in the National League with his 53rd rbi of the season.
Myers broke the previous record , which was held by Greg Vaughn after his ten home run June in 1998.
Vaughn hit 50 home runs that season, which set a Padre record that still stands today.
That was, however, during the heart of the steroid era, during which legendary feats of power became everyday occurrences.
1998 alone saw Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa hit 70 and 66 homers, respectively, breaking the previous record of 61.
Sosa broke the NL record for home runs in a month in 1998 as well, hitting 20 in June.
