Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Tuesday a campaign for county supervisor in District 3 in 2024.

Faulconer, a Republican, is targeting the seat head by Terra Lawson-Remer, a Democrat, representing a district that stretches along the coast from Coronado to Carlsbad and also includes the inland communities of Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos and Rancho Santa Fe.

“As mayor of San Diego, I delivered real results on some of the toughest issues facing San Diego and made significant progress in reducing homelessness, even bucking the statewide trend,” Faulconer said.

Faulconer said key issues facing the district are increasing homelessness and unaffordable housing.

“I’ve served much of this coastal San Diego County district as a councilmember and mayor — I’m ready to lead D3 as their next supervisor,” he said.

Faulconer served as mayor from 2014 to 2020 and ran for unsuccessfully in the gubernatorial recall election in 2021, placing third among the candidates to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom.
