Hello, Uptown!

With the new year underway, many of us are looking for ways to make 2026 meaningful for ourselves and our community. In our uptown neighborhood, the opportunity to do so may be closer than you think.

If you want to start the year off by adopting a new furry friend, adding yoga to your morning routine or giving back to your community through volunteering, then I recommend checking out Whiskers and Wine —where you can do all three!

Located in North Park, this establishment offers its visitors the unique opportunity to hang out with kittens while drinking a glass of wine and snacking on a delicious charcuterie board. If you’re thinking of adding a feline friend to your family, this is a casual way to interact with the cats before committing to anything. Sip on craft cocktails while meeting all of the resident kittens, and you might just discover a special bond.

If you want to add some movement to your new routine, you can sign up for guided yoga classes, which are held on the rooftop of the cafe. The best part? The kittens will be right there with you during the session in this interactive experience. Known as “cat yoga,” this is an attractive option for people who love animals and exercise, or are simply looking to try something new.

Whiskers and Wine is owned by Nicole Smith and Chris Smith, who work in collaboration with animal rescue organizations, such as the Peoria Humane Society, and local volunteers. Together, they have connected animal lovers and formed a community dedicated to animal welfare. You can join the community by signing up to be a volunteer, schedule a lounge or yoga session or browse the list of cats available for adoption.
