But I wanted to draw your attention to an article by our fall intern, Thaïs Giraudet. The SDSU student profiled the small business Act-II, the women’s resale boutique in the Village.
I was in council chambers this summer, a bit confused why dozens of glamorous older women were in the audience. Was there a housing development to oppose? Nope, all were friends and customers of Act-II owner Dolores Buller. They were there to cheer her on as the council honored her ahead of her birthday turning 93 years old.
What stood out to me at the council meeting was that Buller not only started her small business in the early ‘80s and kept it successfully running since, but she was also a key figure in East County’s business community. She helped found the chamber and Village merchants’ association that keep business owners connected with each other.
Buller has passed on the store to her daughter Deanna, whom Giraudet also spoke to for the article. Check it out here, or in the print edition tomorrow.
