Hello, La Jolla!

I’ve never been a fan of making New Year’s resolutions. Although well-intentioned, promising ourselves that we’ll lose weight, be happier or exercise more can set us up for failure. So, this bright new year, I’m choosing a more graceful path: Asking La Jollans to make a wish for our community in 2026.

Here they are:

I wish for a La Jolla that thoughtfully blends the best of the old with the promise of the new: A community capable of revitalizing its commercial core so that La Jolla becomes not only more walkable, but also a true retail village supported by residents and embraced by visitors. It would be wonderful to return to something familiar and cherished, while also moving forward toward a charming, vibrant La Jolla filled with points of connection, inviting destinations and a strong sense of place.

Claude-Anthony Marengo – principal partner of Marengo Morton Architects, The Village

My wish is for a united community, one that can look beyond personal differences to find common ground and a shared joy in the beauty that surrounds us. May 2026 bring us all a bit more peace, love and understanding.

Crystal White – founder and owner of Wayfarer Bread and Pastry, Bird Rock

My wish is a feeling of gratitude for all the support for our family business that we started almost 30 years ago in La Jolla. I can’t think of a better place to work and raise our families. Thank you to this awesome community! I hope that we can all be kinder to one another, despite division and politics.

Izzy Tahanyi, CEO and co-owner of Surf Diva, La Jolla Shores

In 2026, may our La Jolla neighborhood, Windansea, continue to be a place of connection — to nature, to one another and to ourselves. A place where passion meets peace, where determination is softened by salt air, where every sunrise feels like an open invitation to begin again, and where every spectacular sunset reminds us of the gift of a day fully lived.

Ozstar and Robin De Jourday – founders and partners, Team De Jourday Realtors, Windansea
