Today’s newsletter is presented by the Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association.
Good morning, San Diego.
San Diego – a metropolis, yet also, still a military town. But there are a lot of people here who’ve never served and can only imagine what it takes to launch an air strike.
The USS Midway Museum’s new interactive exhibit, “Top Secret,” offers some insight into naval intelligence, and it’s based on a real-life conflict too – Operation Desert Storm. Wondering why this work requires a dab hand and steely nerves? Join the mission briefing on the Midway and see why it takes a team of pros to analyze the intel and embark on an attack.
Photographer Chris Stone was on the Midway to capture the scene Friday. Allow us to share a little pride in our work at Times of San Diego and congratulate Chris, along with her husband, Ken Stone.
The couple, united in part by journalism, won nine of TOSD’s 12 San Diego Society of Professional Journalists awards, handed out Thursday, along with editor Thomas Melville, a new member of the team as part of our recently added community news sites. We also want to call attention to our partners at inewsource, whose border and immigration reporter was honored as local Journalist of the Year. Four other members of the staff took home the chapter’s Excellence in Journalism Award.
