Peninsula Beacon weekly update

Today’s newsletter is presented by addressSD.com.

Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!

Steve Anderson, Community Newsletter Host

It’s almost time to spring forward again. After months of early sunsets and short days, we will finally reclaim another hour of daylight on Sunday.

I think the first few months of the fall back schedule are always the worst, when the sun goes down before 5 p.m. If you have any sort of normal work schedule, the ability to do things after work is greatly stunted.

I’m not sure about you, but I’m really glad to get that extra hour back in my day. It looks like the sun will set at around 6:50 p.m. Sunday evening!

You might be wondering why the spring forward schedule isn’t permanent after we voted yes on Proposition 7 in 2018. Unfortunately, it’s just not that simple. Prop. 7 essentially just gave the California legislature power to change the daylight saving schedule, which requires a ⅔ vote by the California State Senate.

Then it would have to be approved by the federal government. So don’t count on a change any time soon. In the meantime, enjoy the period of time within the spring forward schedule and use it to get outside after work. I’m looking forward to being able to go on more bike rides! What are you going to do with the longer days? Let me know!
