Good morning, San Diego.
It’s time. As of Monday, you’ll have to dig into your pockets if you’re planning on parking at Balboa Park. For some people, it will be pretty steep.
You probably have a question or two about the rollout and how it affects you. We have answers in this guide to the new parking fees. We tell you how to sign up for the residents’ discount – tip: it’s only available online, not at park kiosks – and direct you to the one lot where you still will be able to park free (for three hours).
It’s crossed my mind more than once or twice. Privilege Park. Is that what we should call Balboa Park now?
It depends on your perspective, I suppose. What do you think? Will the new fees alter your plans for trips to Balboa Park? Let us know.
Let’s turn to a case that might have drawn your attention in the past decade. ‘Fat Leonard’ – the investigation became known by the colorful nickname for the main defendant – had everything – sex, scandal, Navy corruption, intrigue. Then prosecutorial misconduct got stirred into the mix.
Greg Moran, a reporter for our partner, inewsource, explores the history of the infamous case, and why some of those targeted in the probe continue to fight for justice. One officer, who did his prison time, said of the government, “I did everything I was supposed to do. Why can’t they do what they’re supposed to do?”
