Hello, Downtown!

Pre-Halloween is the time of year when downtown San Diego and the Gaslamp Quarter look the seasonal part without trying very hard. The Entertainment District has experienced shinier eras. Baseline ambiance can be borderline spooky.

Forget all that this month. Get trapped in some oversized cobweb decor, immerse yourself in ghost stories and mingle in the streets with costumed partiers dressed as sexy witches and zombies. In the October Gaslamp, there’s a dimly lit party place for everyone. Here’s a taste:

Boos and Brews. The Pendry Hotel is going with the alliterative Boos And Brews theme in its Nason Beer Hall. All month long, expect live DJs, movie nights and tarot card readings.

Lost Temple Tavern. The Margaritaville Hotel is turning its LandShark Bar & Grill into the Lost Temple Tavern (Oct. 10 to 31) with tangled vines, tropical skeletons and drinks like the Bloody Ghost Skull shot.

San Diego Zombie Crawl. Bar hop, skip and stumble to and from 20 restaurants and bars on two different weekends – Oct. 23-24 and 30-31.

Yappy Hour: Barks & Boos. Your four-legged friends are invited for some dog-friendly fun at Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter’s Wild Hare Bar Garden (Oct. 24). Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good ghoul?

Bitten Halloween. These soirees at Side Bar promise to meld vampire glamour and after-dark decadence (Oct. 28, 30 and 31). Compete in the costume contest designed to awaken temptation. Syringe shot, anyone?

Hollywood Rising. Upscale karaoke joint Gaslamplighter is offering a musical experience inspired by lifelike artists who refuse to stay buried (Oct. 31). It’s an afterlife encore.

Haunted Manor. The annual Hard Rock Halloween Party (Oct. 31) is always a doozie. Check in for multiple floors of music and dancing and find The Graveyard rooftop party, The Secret Door and The Forbidden Library.
