Hello, Downtown!
After sweating through a heat wave and anticipating severe and wet El Niño weather conditions, it appears to be an appropriate time for the second San Diego Climate Week, running from Oct. 1 to 8.
San Diego is one of more than 20 cities hosting local Climate Week events in 2026. The grassroots effort started in San Francisco three years ago.
What is it? On different dates, each city strives to bring together leaders, businesses and activists to drive environmental action. International cities participating include Copenhagen, Denmark; Montreal, Canada; and Prague, Czech Republic. In the United States, New York has the largest Climate Week participation.
More than 100 events are already planned in San Diego, and registration is still open to add more. The deadline to submit an event is Sept. 24.
The goal is to offer a diverse array of activities via speaker series, policy panels, workshops or other creative events.
Note: Events must align with the mission of fostering collaboration on climate education, be free and inclusive, limit waste and dispose of trash properly.
Some downtown San Diego Climate Week events already on the calendar include:
- Port of San Diego Green Business Mixer (Oct. 1 at 600 Convention Way)
- Mission Valley Garden Club (Oct. 3 at Grant Park)
- Dance for Earth (Oct. 3 at San Diego Made Factory)
- Powering People for a Healthy Environment (Oct. 4 at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station)
- SDCW: Fire Summit (Oct. 6 at San Diego Natural History Museum)
