Taking the stage on a Tuesday

Everyday I feel like I see something new about how I can’t trust my eyes anymore. A new AI software that can replicate someone’s handwriting or one that can seamlessly create 4k imagery. 

Most recently, AI music has come across my radar. What’s next, AI scents? Will technology render our senses obsolete? I’m kidding, but not really. It’s a little more than frightening to find out that AI musicians are already making their way onto the charts.

So it gives me great pleasure to announce that the kids are doing just fine. Local 20-somethings are still hustling their way into Tuesday night residencies at iconic venues. This time, it’s a band called Slacker.

TOSD Contributor Steve Anderson gives us a look inside the mechanics of this punk-trio. I was particularly smitten with how it seemed like the bumps along the road helped them land in the right place. From how they recruited the third member to making use of SDSU’s newsroom as a practice space. The scrappy resourcefulness of youth really comes through in this profile.

Slacker begins its monthlong residency at the Casbah tonight. So, if you’re looking for everyday ways to not take human creativity for granted in an age of digital muck, look no further.
