Good morning, San Diego.

The race to represent California’s 48th District became one of the closest-watched of this mid-term cycle the moment voters approved Prop. 50, redistricting the state specifically to flip a handful of seats from red to blue.
A big piece of that national profile is no longer part of the race, after Rep. Darrell Issa again decided not to take part in a contested election.
Our Dan Friedell has an in-depth dispatch from a the new district and the suddenly wide-open race to represent it. The three top Democrats vying for the seat and Republican County Supervisor Jim Desmond are all zeroing in on the same issue: cost-of-living.
We’ve also got an exclusive for you this weekend: Our Barry Bloom sat down for a clubhouse interview with Padres pitcher and local kid Joe Musgrove, who let him in on the long, hard road back to the mound from Tommy John surgery. Check it out here.
