Good morning, San Diego.

San Diego isn’t necessarily known as a place for emerging directors of film or television. I’ll have to give that to our neighbors up North.
But, hey, that doesn’t mean movies or shows made in and about San Diego haven’t made their mark on viewers around the country. Take “Almost Famous” or “Terriers,” which both feature shots form OB.
The neighborhood, while being an incredibly scenic and “stuck-in-time” filming location, caught one filmmaker’s eye for another reason: The absurd, eclectic community that shapes it.
“End of the 8” was born out of one San Diegan’s desire to be more creative with his camera, and in the process he ended up making a sitcom. A passion project turned into something bigger, and the team decided to submit the pilot episode to various independent film festivals.
Next week the sitcom will premiere on the East Coast at the New York City TV Festival, and has its foot in the door at three other indie film festivals. Read more about the show and what went into making it in our top story of the day.

Opinion: Autonomous vehicles are the future — San Diego must embrace them
The future of transportation is not buses, trolleys, bicycles or traditional taxis; it is autonomous vehicles, and they are arriving rapidly.
