Good morning, San Diego.
It’s Wednesday. If you work a traditional workweek, congratulations on making it through the worst part – Monday and Tuesday. For the rest of you, well, solidarity.
Speaking of non-traditional work (you like what I did there?) our top story is about San Diego’s creative class, and the struggles they face to return to some kind of equilibrium in the wake of the last several years and the lingering effects they’ve had on us all, whether people want to admit it or not. I’ve always been an enthusiastic participant in creative activities and consider myself “a creative,” and have faced similar struggles: isolation, a sense of disconnection, and the lingering feeling that the world has changed so much that what I have to offer is no longer welcome. Apparently, this isn’t just me, which is a relief. I don’t really talk about this to others in everyday conversations; I save it for work and my morning newsletters.
Moving along, county leaders are vowing to alert San Diegans before cuts to food benefits take effect, so that people have time to prepare – a real commentary on 2025 – and the City Council has approved a minimum wage raise to $25 an hour, but only for some.
Finally, I’ve saved one of the most mind-blowing things I could write for the final paragraph. Justin Bieber is headlining Coachella. Okay, I know I am an Old, and I realize that I’m broadcasting this to everybody who reads this, but I never thought I would see the day that everyone’s favorite Canadian boy-pop squeeze would headline Coachella. I’m so stuck in the past that I’m still convinced that Modest Mouse or similar will be headlining. Rough morning, but I shall prevail.
