SDSU’s season of giving

This week, the San Diego State University community proved the “season of giving” can last all year.

Last Saturday, Feb. 21, Dance Marathon at SDSU held its 12th annual fundraising event for Rady Children’s Hospital. 

After a 15-hour day of eating, dancing and playing games, Dance Marathon at SDSU announced it raised $235,511. Although the student organization fundraises all year long through networking, the ticketed dance event is its most lucrative – and most fun. It’s the culmination of hard work. 

One week before, other SDSU students were found giving back to a different community.

Two dozen SDSU student-athletes spent their Valentine’s Day at the San Diego Humane Society, helping sustain a healthy shelter space for more than a thousand pets and prepping pups for adoption. 

Next week, Associated Students SDSU will kick off its annual Greenfest event to celebrate and encourage sustainability. If you’re looking to get involved, its Good Neighbor Cleanup on March 1 is open to community members interested in getting their hands dirty to clean up campus and the surrounding College Area.

Of course, for those with busy schedules, the San Carlos Community Garden is always looking for volunteers to help out and for more thumbs to turn green — 14 years and counting.
