Seven days of environmentally focused events under one banner in one city isn’t a new idea, but it’ll be a first for San Diego.

San Diego Climate Week runs from Oct. 1 to 8, 2025. Anyone can sign up to host an event, and the website’s event registration section just went live this week.

The kickoff event is an Oct. 1 bike ride in Balboa Park. Sponsored by BikeSD, the casual trek will be followed by a panel discussion at the Mingei International Museum. Note: You don’t have to ride a bike to attend the panel event, which will include drinks and tapas.

SDCW co-organizer Meg Ferrigno said Climate Week debuted in New York in 2009, and similar events kicked off in San Francisco and Los Angeles within the past three years. It’s been held in cities around the world, including London and Dubai.

“The goal is to bring citizens and governments and nonprofits together to share environmental mitigations and solutions,” said Ferrigno, who is executive director of The Pureland Project and is currently working to relocate a farm to San Diego’s North County.

She said climate change affects everyone, and San Diego Climate Week arose out of conversations held after the November election.

“Climate change is not a federal priority right now, and even if you’re not an activist, you’re impacted,” Ferrigno said. “But we’re going to make this week fun. We’re hoping for 100 events.”

She said interested groups have indicated they’ll hold conferences, hikes, dance parties and even a climate activist singles mixer.
