Hello, Uptown!

Driving along Uptown roads at dusk you will likely encounter at least one runner. San Diego is an active city. We have the luxury of weather that permits outdoor activities year-round.

Sometimes you may even notice a long line of runners passing your house, apartment or car on the road. That’s likely one of San Diego’s many run clubs. Sometimes it’s fun to watch them from inside my apartment as the pairs, trios or stragglers keep coming one after another.

Run clubs have certainly taken off in popularity. Odds are you’ll be able to find one for your specific neighborhood. From the outside it looks like a purely social opportunity for people who enjoy getting outside without the pressure of training for something big.

But what if all of those miles you put in week after week could be put to the test?

It looks like this is the direction of the Adams Run Club’s upcoming unofficial and unsanctioned 10k. In true run club fashion — runners will be taking over the roads as the sun sets, sans closures.

The BICA Grand Prix 10k will run along Adams Avenue, with the first heat taking off at 6 p.m. If you could catch by the name, Bica will be involved in the production, making their food and drinks available at the end of the race.

You can grab tickets for the Monday, Sept. 21 race here.

For those of you who skipped over all of this because you can not fathom the idea of running 6.21 miles: consider this a PSA for why you’ll see runners on Adams Avenue this Monday.
