Aloha, La Jolla!
La Jolla Cars and Coffee cruised into the village early Sunday morning, treating local automobile enthusiasts to a joyful collision of classic and exotic cars, freshly brewed coffee and inspiring causes.
Typically, the event falls on the second Sunday of the month. But Mother Nature kicked up her heels that weekend, blanketing the coastline in bursts of intermittent Spring showers. The inclement weather turned out to be a blessing, moving the confab into pole position on La Jolla Car Week’s 2026 calendar of events.
A spirit of conviviality filled the air as spectators mingled alongside the artfully assembled vehicles. Some arrived with their pups, who were happy to be along for the ride. A spectrum of dazzling marques – including classic Porsches and Alfa Romeos and exotic McLarens and Ferraris – were represented in the colorful display of automobiles lining Prospect Street.
True to its name, this car show treats its guests to complimentary coffee, sometimes served alongside something sweet. This month, spectators grazed on blue and white macaroons, stamped with the La Jolla Cars and Coffee logo.
Community is the heartbeat of successful car shows; a truth reflected in the inclusion of A New Life dog rescue and Feeding San Diego as the April celebration’s nonprofit beneficiaries. That spirit of community – and its capacity to cultivate connections and empower positive change – inspired Compass Real Estate Agent Craig Lotzof to launch La Jolla Cars and Coffee last November.
“La Jolla Cars and Coffee is a showcase of everything that makes La Jolla special: the energy, the lifestyle, the community. If our car show brings people into The Village, supports local businesses, and creates meaningful connections, then we’ve done exactly what we set out to do, while celebrating a community that we truly love,” he said.
My conversation with Craig Lotzof kicks off Doers and Dreamers, a series showcasing the intrepid La Jollans who are bringing bighearted ideas to life.
