Hello, Navajo and College Area!

When my kids were younger, they used to always ask me to take them to the “rolly slide” park. For the adults in the room, that meant Lake Murray Park, which had a slide made of metal rollers that made a cool sound when you slid down it, or when foolish adults like me tried to run up it.

One major problem with the rolly slide park was that there wasn’t a bathroom in sight. It wasn’t unusual to see moms and dads hustling their kids behind a tree, heads on a swivel for oncoming walkers and joggers.

A few years ago, the city tried to fix that by bringing in portable restrooms. No one loves escorting a child into a port-a-potty, but it was at least a responsible option. But that ended last year, when the city had the portable bathrooms removed due to…you guessed it, budget cuts.

My kids and I haven’t been back to Lake Murray Park since then, but I am sure a common sight at the park since the port-a-potties were removed is parents, once again, standing next to a tree or a bush, waiting for their kid to finish.

Well, good news…relief is on the way.

During a June 11 meeting, a community representative from Councilmember Raul Campillo’s Office informed the Navajo Planning Group: Portable restrooms are coming back. This is thanks to a partnership between our councilmember and County Supervisor Joel Anderson, who found grant money to pay for the portable restrooms.

Councilmember Campillo’s Office told Times of San Diego contributor Taylor Rau that the portable bathrooms should be delivered in a few weeks and will remain for at least a year.
