Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!

A storm is brewing in San Diego — and it looks like today will be the last of it. After a streak of good weather throughout January, winter is catching up with us as the weather takes a turn for the worse.
Of course that brings the usual issues we see in Point Loma and OB, with potential flooding and infrastructure —namely, the pier — threatened.
The storm also brings in a high surf warning which will be hitting the peninsula particularly well. Aside from the wind potentially disrupting the conditions, expect overhead sets at the cliffs and in OB.
I love a good-old winter swell as much as the next guy, but growing up in Hawaii makes me sort of dread surfing in the winter. Not so much because of the size, but because of the water temperature.
If it’s raining, then it’s even worse. So when this weather hits us in the winter, I usually like to lay low. I try to stay off the roads to avoid the flooding and the many palm fronds scattered in the road.
So besides maybe grabbing a coffee, I’ll stay home and watch some movies. Lately, I’ve been diving into the Criterion Collection and brushing up on some indie movie classics. My favorite from the collection so far is “Slacker” directed by Richard Linklater from 1990. It’s a dialogue-heavy film about a day in Austin, Texas.
It’s an opportune time to brush up on the films of San Diego native Robert Duvall as we mourn his passing. There’s plenty of good ones to choose from, like “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now.”
What’s your go-to movie when it’s rainy out? Let me know, I always want to watch more movies!
