Today’s newsletter is presented by OBMA.
Good morning, San Diego.
The legendary Spreckels Theater is still dark. The marquee sign still advises people to distance themselves socially and promises to reopen again “soon.” But it’s still closed — long after the rest of the downtown theaters have reopened.
Why? Part of the answer is in its new ownership, but there’s more to it than that. Our top story by Drew Sitton has more details.
We’re also looking into a troubling trend: Multiple people have shown up to green card interviews or related appointments, only to be arrested. It’s the latest escalation in ICE tactics, and according to immigration attorneys, it appears to be centered directly on San Diego.
Finally, if you’re getting ready to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, you are not alone. Boy, are you not alone. The roads and airways are going to be effectively crammed for much of the rest of the week, but today, Wednesday, is a peak travel day. You’ll probably have noticed by now, whether you’re traveling or not.
One programming note: Don’t expect a newsletter from us tomorrow morning. We’re taking the morning off, but we’ll be back in your inbox on Friday.
