Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!

Hello, I’m Steve Anderson, and I’m the new face that’s delivering you the Point Loma/OB news.
My title as an OBecian was bestowed on me after moving here four years ago. However, I grew up coming to OB to visit my uncle on Voltaire Street, and knew I had to come back later in life. So I turned 18, moved out of the house, studied journalism at Point Loma Nazarene and finally settled in Ocean Beach.
I love to ride my bike around town to check the waves or just grab a coffee down at OB Beans. If you ever see me, say hello!
Enough of me. Let’s get into the week. We weathered our first winter storm of the season this past weekend, so hopefully you were able to steer clear of the falling palm fronds while driving.
It’s storms like these that make me recall our crippled pier that was left a wreck a couple of years ago. As of October, the future of the OB Pier is still up in the air.
The city has said that pursuing a replacement of the pier is the best long-term option, yet the Environmental Impact Report, which takes anywhere from two to five years, won’t be ready for public review until 2026.
I know, bummer. But this gives us all a good opportunity to appreciate the other wonderful places in our community, like Sunset Cliffs or Newport Avenue (after the rain clears up, of course).
