Good morning, San Diego.

So much excitement the last couple of days over Artemis II and its San Diego splashdown! Did you watch?

Like the astronauts though, we’ve come back down to Earth – but in a good way! In all the hubbub Friday you might have missed the news about a new feature in a particularly lovely corner of San Diego’s bit of the planet.

That corner? Balboa Park. The feature? A throwback to the early days of the historic jewel. The city lost the 12 pergolas that once were part of the park due to Navy needs during World War II, but fast forward several decades and the park has one again – and possibly another to come.

The pergola has been added as part of the long effort to reimagine the Botanical Building and its surrounding gardens. It looks like a beautiful place to spend a spring or summer day – perhaps even a wedding day. Will it be a beacon for brides (and other event planners)? Time will tell.

Drew Sitton has more on the pergola and also on the Tony-Award winning costume designer who grew up locally and got her start in San Diego theater. See Paloma Young’s work this week when Broadway’s “The Notebook” tour comes to town.

• Rep. Scott Peters joined a chorus of Democrats urging Rep. Eric Swalwell, who he had endorsed (not anymore), to drop out of the gubernatorial race.
