Aloha, La Jolla!

Everyone loves a fresh start. New beginnings inspire the promise of dreams to be fulfilled.

This month, La Jolla Meals on Wheels is celebrating a bright, new start with its new meal preparation partner, Neighborhood House Association of San Diego.

In partnership with Girard Gourmet, the nonprofit is launching a fundraising campaign showcasing the bakery’s beloved gourmet jumbo cookies.

During the week leading up to Father’s Day (June 14-21), Girard Gourmet will sell gift boxes of three Cool Summer Sun jumbo cookies for $20. The signature cookie design captures the fundraising campaign’s positive, forward-looking spirit: a cheerful sun face, wearing black sunglasses, created from a sugar cookie topped with bright-yellow frosting. Gift boxes will be secured with colorful “Our Bright, New Start” labels, donated by Copy Cove.

La Jolla Meals on Wheels has served nutritious daily meals to seniors and home-bound neighbors since 1974.  Beginning June 1, new federal eligibility requirements are expected to result in an estimated 100,000 San Diego County residents without CalFresh food assistance, leaving them no choice but to turn to community nonprofits, like La Jolla Meals on Wheels, for help. Teaming up with San Diego Neighborhood House Association will make it possible for La Jolla Meals on Wheels to continue serving its existing clients, while expanding its footprint to meet the nutritional needs of seniors and homebound La Jolla residents who increasingly are facing food insecurity.
