Good morning, San Diego.

Brooke Binkowski
Brooke Binkowski, Morning Update Editor

I’ve lived a while and seen some things over the years. I was a career reporter for thirty years before heaving over to the editor’s side of things, including a long stretch covering breaking news and crime beats in Los Angeles. I say this not to brag (okay, I’m bragging a little) but to say that while I’m easy to frustrate and annoy, very little shocks me.

But my eyes sure bugged out of my head this morning when I was looking over the headlines. It’s right there in our top story: during Saturday’s Marine celebration at Pendleton, artillery fired over the 5 misfired and struck a CHP vehicle.

I’m just going to let that sit there without any more commentary or augmentation except to say wow, that could have been a whole lot worse and I’m glad it wasn’t.

And don’t miss the rest of our stories, which are no less important.

Stay safe out there, folks – and stay out from under errant missiles on freeways, if you can.
