Good morning, San Diego.

Whew, Thursday was a big day in Trumpville.

Kristi Noem is out at DHS with Sen. Markwayne Mullin ready to step in as secretary. The administration is in the crosshairs of yet another lawsuit by California and other states, this time on tariffs, since President Trump introduced a new set despite the Supreme Court striking down his original plan. Experts also are considering the potential impact of the president’s call for work requirements for the Medicaid program. They could hit homeless people especially hard.

Locally, an unidentified student was suspended from Torrey Pines High for hanging posters on campus that read “I love ICE, from Real Americans.” The district now finds itself in a free speech controversy.

But, hey it’s Friday and you might be firmly focused on the weekend and avoiding all these political machinations. So we have mammals and Musgrove for you instead.

First up, San Diego Safari Park is making a splash with its new Elephant Valley. Head up to North County to see the herd during the attraction’s first weekend. We’ve got all the deets.

As for East County hometown boy Joe Musgrove, the Padre who missed all of last year due to Tommy John surgery? He’s mended and nearly ready for his comeback.
