Good morning, San Diego.
The NewSchool of Architecture & Design has started classes again, but it has moved from the warehouse it has been known by for many years.
That move, our contributor Jesse Marx revealed, followed an eviction case filed by the school’s landlord in 2024. The court this spring determined the school owed $2.2 million in past-due rent.
Its the latest in a string of bad press for the school, after accreditation bodies previously raised concerns. Lawsuits continue to fly, throwing the school’s future into question. You can read more about it in our top story.
But here’s some good news: San Diego FC kept its debut season alive with a dominant 4-0 playoff win at Snapdragon Stadium last night.
Our Mark Nero was there chronicling SDFC’s trek to become the second ever expansion team to win the MLS Cup. (The San Diego Wave, alas, were eliminated from the playoffs last night by the Portland Thorns.)
We’ve also got updates on how the air travel chaos may last much longer than the shutdown thanks to supply chain disruptions and last week’s tragic crash in Kentucky, the weather for this week (it’s going to get cooler!) and a story about the Hotel Del Coronado’s upcoming holiday festivities that truly embrace its past.
One programming note: We’ve started our year-end fundraising campaign, and we’ve got an ambitious goal. Expect to hear from us a bit more than usual for a bit.
