Hello, Uptown!
In the next few years, we will be welcoming new members to our neighborhood as they become the first people to move into a brand new seven-story apartment complex in the heart of North Park, a development built upon a historic 100-year-old building.
Located at 2906 University Ave., Uptown residents might immediately recognize the building – its turquoise walls have attracted street and graffiti artists alike who have left their mark throughout the years.
Purpose Real Estate purchased the property for approximately $8 million dollars with plans to restore the building to its original crisp white and terra-cotta tiles. These are the signature colors of the Spanish colonial architecture style that defined San Diego in the early 20th century.
The building is situated within a walkable distance to the best North Park has to offer — including restaurants, bars, grocery stores, salons, tattoo shops and small, locally owned businesses that could benefit.
The project is one of many that are currently undergoing construction after an amendment was added to the Uptown community plan that could double Uptown’s population from 40,000 to 100,000 by 2050. So I wonder, how will our neighborhood evolve as our community grows? Will the surge drive our businesses forward and stabilize rent prices — or will it have the opposite effect? Only time will tell.
