Good morning, San Diego.

Paid parking at Balboa Park isn’t going over very well.

Backlash to the program arrived alongside new payment kiosks in the city’s crown jewel.

Then, late Tuesday, council members asked the mayor to pause the effort, citing a bumpy rollout and general confusion.

But Mayor Todd Gloria’s office released a memo Wednesday that is unequivocal: Parking at Balboa Park will remain paid.

“We are continuing to expand public education, complete remaining wayfinding signage, refine kiosk messaging, develop the technology to display the daily resident rate on the kiosk, and improve the resident portal,” the mayor’s office said.

On the same day, Councilmember Raul Campillo proposed big changes to the new special event parking rates around Petco Park, too.

The city relied on both paid parking programs to help close last year’s budget deficit.
