Making an impact at home

It’s been a tumultuous start to the year, and national events have made their way to America’s Finest City.

On Jan. 7, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good, an unarmed U.S. citizen, during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis. The shooting has sparked intense scrutiny and nationwide protests against federal law enforcement overreach. Demonstrators here in San Diego made their voices heard over the weekend. 

On Saturday in Pacific Beach, protesters lined up on the corner of Crown Point Drive and Ingraham Street to speak out against ICE. This was just one of dozens of protests throughout the county. Organizers from the nationwide groups Indivisible and “ICE Out for Good!” have been working with Activist San Diego to share information about upcoming demonstrations.

Given our proximity to the border and the ongoing debate over immigration policy, this issue resonates for many here in San Diego.
