Good morning, San Diego.

Tessa Balc, Audience Engagement Producer

Lowrider aficionados descended upon Logan Heights Library yesterday for the issuing of a brand new lowrider stamp.

Sure, there were definitely a few stamp collectors in the mix, but lowrider owners and lovers far outnumbered philatelists (yea, that’s the word for stamp collectors.)

Some people at the event told me they waited in line nearly an hour and a half to get their hands on the commemorative stamps.

Our Alejandro Maciel outlined how lowrider owners went from hiding from police to getting immortalized by the U.S. postal service in just a few years, as the federal government decided to dedicate a stamp to chicano culture.

Read about lowriding and the community behind it in our top story today, and check out video of the event here.

Opinion: From San Diego, Iran war looks like military success, political uncertainty
