Hello, Uptown!

Once again, Uptown has proven that it has something for absolutely everyone.

It’s a new year, and Corvettes, Bonnevilles, Thunderbirds and more are returning to the neighborhood — hopefully next month

On the third Saturday of each month, the Hillcrest Classic Car Show offers an opportunity to come up close and personal with a wide range of collector vehicles.

Since 2017, Uptown has been the proud host of over 20 classic cars brought by the largest LGBTQ+ car club on the West Coast, Great Autos, in a collaboration with Fabulous Hillcrest and MO’s Universe. With every event, people who previously did not know anything about cars have the opportunity to gain a newfound appreciation for cars as pieces of historical significance and unique design.

Even if you just happen to be walking by, you can’t help but be completely hypnotized by the colors radiating from a collection of 1960s classic vehicles (such as a Bonneville convertible with a fully Tiffany Blue interior!). It’s like walking through an art museum of cars and being taken back in time to each of the decades they belong to, and you can even talk to their passionate owners, who are always happy to share their stories.

Though it’s been a monthly event since 2017, the car show was forced to pause this January due to permit complications with the San Diego Police Department. Organizers are hoping to return to their original location at Pride Plaza in Normal Street, where they wouldn’t have to acquire a street permit, and thus, avoid the additional fees.

In the meantime, the event should resume at its new location at 5th Avenue between Pennsylvania and Evans, on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Head over to the Fabulous Hillcrest official website to find more information on events and enjoy everything that this neighborhood has to offer!

By Drew Sitton • Times of San Diego

The museum’s many ideas to impact the arts in San Diego rely on the plan for a new west wing, which would double its display space.
