Good morning, San Diego.

A man was arrested yesterday after he crashed his boat into the USS Midway last Friday in what is thought to have been a BUI – boating under the influence – and then sailed away. Police later found his boat (the Offshore Lifestyle, if you’re curious) near the Coronado Ferry Landing and took him into custody.

No one was injured in the incident, but the Midway sustained about $100,000 in damage. The decommissioned aircraft carrier now functions as a floating military museum and is moored in the San Diego Bay. It’s the first time I’ve ever heard of a boat getting driven into a museum, and it feels like one of those “only in San Diego” things that happens. It’s also a warning to other boaters: Don’t hit floating museums.

Sometimes it’s easy to get a grip on the theme of the day’s news cycle early, but today’s news is something of a mixed bag so far. A woman in Fallbrook was arrested for allegedly shooting her boyfriend in the head (he was grazed and will recover), San Diego County fairgoers have donated thousands of toys to children in the United States and Mexico, and the San Diego Humane Society is running a fundraiser that any cat or dog owner can get behind.
