Hello, La Mesa!
Last week on Local News Day, I got an unexpected email from a producer at KPBS asking me to talk about the La Mesa Courier. That’s right– our community newspaper is getting regional attention. Toiling in obscurity no more!
It was insanely nerve wracking and the amount of palm sweat was disgusting, but I made it through! Listen here.
Still endlessly grateful I get to be a writer, not a TV anchor or radio host.
Speaking of dream careers, I interviewed three women who have found their place, whether through wearing a badge or cooking behind a counter, in La Mesa.
They’re also not alone in that. Last year I spoke with Becca Title, who achieved her lifelong goal of publishing a novel while owning and operating Meet Cute Bookshop in the La Mesa Village.
Interestingly, none of them live here– they just found or created opportunities here.
Is the key to happiness pursuing your dream job in La Mesa? Anecdotally, yes!

You can always stop by Becca’s store to grab a romance novel on the way to J-K’s because the cafe now offers seating in a bright, clean dining area too, not just takeout.
