Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!
I hope you all had a great Easter and got to spend time with family or friends searching for eggs and whatnot. As 2026 continues to fly by, there are a couple things happening within the community worth noting.
Over on the Sports Arena side of town, Midway Rising has yet another crucial update.
State Sen. Akilah Weber Pierson introduced a bill to exempt Midway Rising from the California Environmental Quality Act in order to push it forward. This comes after numerous setbacks, most revolving around the project exceeding the 30-foot height limit of the area. Different stadium developments have bypassed CEQA before — notably Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles.
All in all, it looks like Midway Rising will most likely go through, especially with the overwhelming support it has within the city. Based on a new poll, 57% of Point Loma and OB residents support the project.
It’s a small majority, but those margins became much wider when Peninsula respondents were asked whether they feel the Midway District is in need of some redevelopment. The area is run down, and it’s clear many residents want to see a change.
Back in OB, there is some exciting music news. Local band, Half Hour Late, will be playing a Saturday night show at Winston’s on April 25. Considering they’re native to OB, it should be rowdy time, so it’s worth buying tickets early. Hope to see you there supporting live and local music!
