Good morning, San Diego.

We’ve got a surprise for you this morning.

Today, we’re unveiling the first episode of the San Diego Politics Show, a twice-a-month YouTube show about… San Diego politics.

Our first episode debuted this morning at this link. It’s up right now.

I interviewed District 9 Councilmember Sean El0-Rivera about the defeat of his proposed tax on vacation rentals, and the city’s ongoing budget woes. The show’s host, Matt Strabone, led a panel discussion on the Balboa Park parking fees backlash and potential reversal.

Give it a watch and let us know what you think. We’ll be back with episode two in a couple weeks. Tell me what you want to see on that episode at news@timesofsandiego.com.

Also new this morning, our Jennifer Vigil broke down how the de facto Democratic primary is shaping up in the race to face Rep. Darrell Issa in California’s 48th Congressional district. Councilmember Marni Von Wilpert took a big share of the party’s pre-endorsement vote, suggesting the party could be softening on three-time candidate Ammar Campa-Najjar.

Opinion: Seeing America through eyes of immigrant students could teach ICE

If one of the job requirements for being in ICE was to spend a significant amount of time in a classroom with immigrants, there would be no ICE.
