Good morning, San Diego.
Well, that was quick. False alarm, folks, Rep. Darrell Issa is not defecting to the Lone Star State.
The Republican congressman decided against running for a seat in Texas rather than seek reelection in California’s redrawn 48th district. Voters last month approved new district lines meant to put the seat in play as a Democratic pickup, but Issa said “I can hold this seat.”
Only time will tell if that’s the case, and maybe his optimism can inspire us all to dream big.
It turns out, though, Texas isn’t such a far off land, and they share some of our San Diego woes. I’m referring to Flock, not a gaggle of birds, but rather a surveillance tech company that has spread across the country.
The San Diego city council on Tuesday will vote to decide whether San Diego will continue to use Flock’s technology, including its automatic license plate readers. We’ve got the rundown on why some council members and activists say it’s time we leave Flock behind.
There is one thing San Diegans will have to say goodbye to, whether they we like it or not. Today starts the official one month countdown until parking is no longer free at Balboa Park.
