Today’s newsletter is presented by Kona Kai.
Good morning, San Diego.
If you haven’t heard, the San Diego Football Club has had a record-setting inaugural season — which continued last night win the team secured its first playoff win in franchise history.
But before we get into today’s news, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tessa Balc and I’m Times of San Diego’s new (and first) audience engagement producer. What that means is I’ll be managing our newsletters, social media and all things related to making our news more accessible to you. As I get into the groove of things, I need something from you all: your feedback.
Send me an email and let me know where you come across Times’ news and what we can do to reach you better.
Now, back to the good stuff. SDFC beat the Portland Timbers 2-1 in front of a sold-out crowd at Snapdragon Stadium. They’re now one win in the best-of-three series from moving to the conference semifinals.
Check out our featured story on last night’s game and their historic inaugural season. It’s not too late to join the party as they look to become the second ever expansion team to win the MLS Cup.
And a big congratulations to our former intern journalist and student reporter Swasti Singhai, this year’s recipient of the San Diego Press Club’s $2,500 Frank Saldana Memorial Scholarship. Read all about her and the rest of the talented journalists to receive recognition in this week’s MarketInk column. Big congratulations all around – we are all so proud of you!
