Hello, Point Loma and Ocean Beach!

Summer is approaching here in Point Loma and OB. As the school year wraps up so are some of our local high school sports. The Pointers men’s volleyball team won the school’s first volleyball title on May 16 in the CIF Div V. Finals. They defeated Hoover High 3-0 to hoist their Division title.

They have moved on to the state CIF volleyball playoffs, where they’ve won three matches against Maywood CES, Temescal Canyon and Christian High School. Their next match is against El Dorado on Saturday, May 30, in Fresno for a shot to win the CIF State title.

I think it goes without saying: We will all be rooting for The Pointers from afar this Saturday. The Pointers men’s baseball team, also on a playoff run, ultimately fell short of a CIF title on Tuesday after losing to Eastlake in the championship.

However, the school’s softball team won the CIF regional title after defeating Bonita Vista on Tuesday.

If you’re thinking summer weather will be blessing the peninsula, maybe think again. It looks like the May gray will probably shift toward June gloom. The next week’s weather forecast has highs around 66 degrees with partly cloudy conditions. I know it’s not ideal, but this marine layer that shrouds the peninsula tends to clear up around 1 p.m. most days. So it shouldn’t cause too much of a damper on your summer plans.

Either way, get out there and spend some time outside. Go walk the cliffs, watch a baseball game, swim in the ocean! It’s summertime!
